Dubai International: services during a layover

Dubai puts almost everything useful inside the transit area: lounges, showers, sleep pods and hourly hotel rooms are all airside in Terminal 3. The exception is left luggage, which sits landside in arrivals, past immigration. Work out which side you will be on before you plan anything else.

Airside
Lounges

Most include a shower slot; ask at the desk before you pay.

Where
Pay-per-use and airline lounges in every Terminal 3 concourse, plus Terminal 1.
Cost
Walk-in entry roughly AED 150–400 for a few hours (approximate).
Airside
Showers

Towel and toiletries are normally included. Queues build after the early-morning bank of arrivals.

Where
Shower rooms inside the Terminal 3 sleep lounges and several pay-per-use lounges.
Cost
Around AED 100 and up for a shower-only slot (approximate).
Landside
Left luggage

This is the trap: the counters are landside. If you stay in transit you cannot reach them, so use the locker in a sleep pod or lounge instead.

Where
Baggage storage counters in Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 arrivals, past immigration.
Cost
Roughly AED 40–80 per bag for the first 24 hours (approximate).
Airside
Sleep pods

Book ahead for the overnight block; the pods fill first on the 01:00–05:00 wave.

Where
Sleep-pod lounges in Terminal 3 concourses A, B and C, open around the clock.
Cost
Blocks of a few hours, from roughly AED 100–150 upward (approximate).
Airside
Transit hotel

You keep your bags in the room, which solves the storage problem on a long connection.

Where
The airport hotel has airside wings in Terminal 1 and Terminal 3, rented by the hour or the night.
Cost
From roughly AED 400 a night; hourly rates are lower (approximate).
Airside & landside
Quiet & prayer rooms

Wudu facilities are attached. Signage is in Arabic and English throughout.

Where
Prayer rooms in every concourse and in the landside arrivals halls, with separate areas for men and women.
Cost
Free
Airside & landside
Wi-Fi & charging

No time cap in practice. Charging points are easier to find near the gates than in the shopping spine.

Where
Free wi-fi across all terminals, airside and landside.
Cost
Free
Airside
Food

Drinking fountains are scarce; refill points sit next to the toilets in each concourse.

Where
Restaurants and cafés open 24 hours along the Terminal 3 concourses.
Cost
Expect roughly AED 40–90 for a sit-down plate (approximate).

Terminal 3 is where the Emirates connection happens, and its three concourses are linked airside by an automated train. Each has at least one sleep-pod lounge, a pay-per-use lounge with showers, and food that never closes. If your connection is under six hours, the honest recommendation is to stay inside and buy a shower slot rather than attempt the border.

Left luggage is the one facility that forces a decision. The counters are in landside arrivals in Terminals 1 and 3, so reaching them means clearing UAE immigration, which takes time and depends on your passport. Transit passengers who only need to park a cabin bag for a few hours are better served by the locker inside a sleep lounge. Connections that involve Terminal 2 usually need a landside shuttle, so check with your airline before you count on an airside transfer.

Frequently asked questions

Can I store luggage at DXB without clearing immigration?
No. The storage counters are landside in arrivals, so you would have to enter the UAE first. Airside, your options are the small lockers inside sleep lounges and paid lounges.
How much does a shower cost at Dubai airport?
Roughly AED 100 upward for a shower-only slot in the transit area, and it is usually bundled into a lounge or sleep-pod booking. Treat the figure as approximate and confirm at the desk.
Is there a hotel inside the transit area?
Yes, the airport hotel has airside wings in Terminals 1 and 3 and rents rooms by the hour as well as by the night. Booking ahead matters on the overnight wave.
Are the terminals connected airside?
The three Terminal 3 concourses are connected airside by train. Anything involving Terminal 2 generally means a landside transfer, so check with your airline.
Updated: 2026 Rules change and depend on your exact ticket, airline and passport. Always confirm with your airline and the airport’s official immigration authority before you travel.
