Hamad International: services during a layover

Hamad is built around the transit passenger, so the sleeping, showering and eating all happen airside without a border crossing. Left luggage is the exception again: the desk is landside near baggage reclaim, and the self-service lockers inside the terminal have been unreliable. Plan the bag question first.

Airside
Lounges

The business-class lounges are ticket-restricted; the pay-per-use ones sell entry to anyone with a boarding pass.

Where
Airline and pay-per-use lounges spread along the concourses, all inside the transit area.
Cost
Walk-in access roughly QAR 200–350 for a few hours (approximate).
Airside
Showers

The wellness pass usually bundles pool and gym access, which only pays off on connections over six hours.

Where
Showers in the airside hotel wellness area and in several transit lounges.
Cost
Roughly QAR 100–200 for a shower or a wellness day pass (approximate).
Landside
Left luggage

Self-service lockers inside the terminal have been out of service for long stretches, so do not build a plan around them. Some paid lounges will hold a cabin bag while you use them.

Where
Baggage services desk near the baggage reclaim area, on the arrivals level.
Cost
Roughly QAR 25–55 per item depending on size and duration (approximate).
Airside
Sleep pods

The free recliners have no lockers, so keep your bag on you and set an alarm.

Where
Free quiet rooms with recliners in the transit area, plus paid sleep cabins.
Cost
Quiet rooms are free; cabins run from roughly QAR 150 for a short block (approximate).
Airside
Transit hotel

There is a second, landside property; make sure you book the airside one if you are not entering Qatar.

Where
The airport hotel sits inside the terminal, airside, and rents rooms by the hour.
Cost
From roughly QAR 400 for a short stay (approximate).
Airside & landside
Quiet & prayer rooms

Wudu facilities are attached and open at all hours.

Where
A mosque and prayer rooms in the transit area, plus prayer rooms landside.
Cost
Free
Airside & landside
Wi-Fi & charging

Connection is stable in the central hall and patchier at the far ends of the concourses.

Where
Free wi-fi throughout the terminal.
Cost
Free
Airside
Food

Water refill points are next to the toilets. Alcohol is served, but only inside licensed bars and lounges.

Where
Cafés and restaurants across the transit area, with a core staying open all night.
Cost
Roughly QAR 45–110 for a sit-down plate (approximate).

The whole transit area is one connected building, so nothing here requires a shuttle. Free quiet rooms with recliners are scattered along the concourses, and the airside hotel sells rooms by the hour with a pool and gym attached. On a connection of six hours or more the wellness pass is the better value; on anything shorter, a lounge with a shower is enough.

For bags, the honest answer is that Doha is weaker than its reputation. The staffed desk sits landside near baggage reclaim, which means clearing Qatari immigration to use it. If you are staying in transit, ask the lounge you are paying for whether they will hold a cabin bag, and assume nothing about the terminal lockers until you see them open.

Frequently asked questions

Is there left luggage inside the Doha transit area?
Not reliably. The staffed desk is landside near baggage reclaim, and the terminal lockers have been out of service for long periods. Ask your lounge whether it will hold a cabin bag.
Can I sleep at Hamad for free?
Yes. There are free quiet rooms with recliners along the concourses, airside. They have no lockers, so keep your bag with you.
Do I need to leave the airport to use the hotel?
No. The transit hotel is inside the terminal, airside, and rents by the hour. There is also a landside property, so check which one you are booking.
Where can I shower during a Doha layover?
In the airside hotel wellness area or in a pay-per-use lounge. Expect roughly QAR 100 to 200, approximate, and more if the pass includes the pool.
Updated: 2026 Rules change and depend on your exact ticket, airline and passport. Always confirm with your airline and the airport’s official immigration authority before you travel.
